US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is creating the first ever network of women entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean with aim of advancing the economic empowerment of women in the region. It is against this background that Yaneek Page received a special invitation from the US State Department to attend the Pathways to Prosperity Conference, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on October 5, 2011.
According to Mrs. Page “I was advised that Secretary Clinton was proud of the work that us women entrepreneurs are doing to build our communities and countries and therefore she wanted to meet with us personally.” Of note is that officials from Secretary Clinton’s office were very impressed with FSIL business model, and expressed an interest in seeing it replicated throughout the Americas.
The proposed network is expected to be established in time for the Summit of the Americas which takes place in early 2012. Mrs. Page has fully embraced the initiative and is enthused at the high level of support being offered by the United States, as she noted ” Secretary Hillary Clinton really cares about women’s issues, especially economic empowerment. And this effort will be a huge benefit for us: in opportunity sharing, information exchange and the possibility of venturing into the Latin American market.”
